Clio, the online practice management software provider, announced beta software features for document automation. In effect, you can create a template with merge codes, or Clio tags, and use information on a matter, e.g., client, case number, to automatically fill the tags in your document with data. See Catherine Hillier's post on "How to Create a Document Template" in Clio.
For online practice management systems, this is an extension of the document automation that has already been at work creating custom invoices for billing. Now it has been extended to put more of your data to work to create documents, as well as custom invoices.
