About
The Common Scold

The Common Scold is named after a cause of action that originated in Pilgrim days, when meddlesome, argumentative, opinionated women who displeased the Puritan elders were punished by a brisk dunk in the local pond. Believe it or not, the tort lasted until 1972, when State v. Palendrano, 120 N.J. Super. 336, 293 A.2d 747 (N.J.Super.L., Jul 13, 1972) pretty much put it to rest. But the thought of those feisty women, not afraid of a little cold water, has always cheered me up and inspired me. I first used the moniker as the name of my humor column at the University of San Francisco School of Law many moons ago, and revive it now for this blawg!

SILVER & BRONZE

OlympicsMore good news to share! Shane DeLeers and Bob Ambrogi have won Bronze and Silver awards for their stellar work in LTN in the national awards presented Saturday in Kansas City at the American Society of Business Publications Editors annual meeting.

August2LTN's Shane DeLeers, who was just promoted to Art Director (congrats!) won for our August '07 cover -- the EDD Showcase featuring the annual Socha/Gelbmann survey, in the best Tabloid Cover category.

Ambrogi won for his Web Watch column in the best contributed column category. Here are his two winning columns, from February '07 and October '07.

Congrats also to our colleagues at The American Lawyer and Corporate Counsel who also won several prizes. Here's the ASBPE site which has the lists of winners (but you have to drill down, it doesn't do a unique URL).
