SPORTS NIGHT!
What a day.... First, a roller coaster game at Yankee Stadium, but thanks to Giambi, Jeter, Melky, and yes, A-Rod, we beat Tampa Bay 9-5 in Opening Day fun. Weather was funky but it was soooo good to be at The Cathedral again. (Photo AP)
Almost as much fun, back home, was watching the Royals beat up on Curt Schilling and the BoSox (congrats Gil Meche) even though I had to suffer through ESPN's cloying, babbling Jon Miller (WHEN will they get rid of him??)
Then, I watched, in absolute disbelief, the NCAA tourney championship round.... For the first time ever, I came in first in a pool! Particularly amazing, because like the skit on SNL two weeks ago, I really can't claim ANY basketball knowledge..... I picked UCLA and Nevada because my brother went to school there; Georgetown (hands down the most exciting game) because it's Jesuit like my law school (University of San Francisco) and my uncle went there for law school; and Florida because my pals David Horrigan and Andy Adkins love the Gators.
I tried to find the SNL skit, but it's not posted (yet?) ... but it was pretty funny (I think Amy Poehler plays the airhead gal who picked teams based on their uniform colors, etc. (If I find it, I'll post it...)
But in the meantime, here's another SNL goodie: an hysterical takeoff of the United Way NFL ads, with Peyton Manning.
