About
The Common Scold

The Common Scold is named after a cause of action that originated in Pilgrim days, when meddlesome, argumentative, opinionated women who displeased the Puritan elders were punished by a brisk dunk in the local pond. Believe it or not, the tort lasted until 1972, when State v. Palendrano, 120 N.J. Super. 336, 293 A.2d 747 (N.J.Super.L., Jul 13, 1972) pretty much put it to rest. But the thought of those feisty women, not afraid of a little cold water, has always cheered me up and inspired me. I first used the moniker as the name of my humor column at the University of San Francisco School of Law many moons ago, and revive it now for this blawg!

GOOD COMPANY

Globaltechleaderstop100My humble thanks to London-based CityTech magazine, and its editor, Karen Jones, for including me on its new roster of the 2006 Top 100 Global Tech Leaders.

The magazine polled 2,000 "clients, partners and peers" to compile the list, and I'm honored to be among such heady company. Indeed, including several current and past members of LTN's Editorial Advisory Board -- Doug Caddell, Tom O'Connor (and his partner, Gayle O'Connor), Ernest Svenson, John Tredennick, George Rudoy, Judith Flournoy, and Ross Kodner.

The magazine also announced its CityTech Honour Awards, and our LegalTech shows were applauded as one of four "Best Legal Tech Events Both Sides of the Pond," calling LT "the best legal tech lead generator show on earth."

JoAnna Forshee's Envision Agency, and David Glynn, of Chicago's Law Bulletin, offered their advice to Ms. Jones. (Forshee compiles LTN's monthly events calendar).
