SAD NEWS

We've just received word, through Craig Ball, that James Keane (left) lost his battle with lung cancer today. Keane was a vibrant leader in the legal technology world, and I have fond memories of his enthusiasm and dedication.

I did not know Jim well, but always liked him and admired his dedication. My last warm memory of Jim was at LegalTech NY -- where I almost didn't recognize him because he was now stylishly bald. He teased me about that, with his usual good spirit and humor, and we had a funny e-mail exchange. He faced his medical challenge with candor and courage. We'll miss him.

We send our keen condolences to family, and hope they are buoyed by the knowledge of how much Jim was appreciated in our community.

Both the Washington Post's online listings, and the funeral home, have online guest books that we can all sign to express our condolences and remembrances for the family. I'll find the links and add them here. I think Jim would have gotten a big kick out of that!
